How to Use Google Ads Editor

The Google Ads Editor has been a powerful tool in Google’s arsenal. While many businesses are familiar with the capabilities of Google Ads Editor, there are still some daunting tasks such as setting up ads and changing keywords and targeting.

The Google Ads editor lets you create and manage new campaigns, ad groups and keywords, and even test ads.

It’s easy to learn how Google Ads Editor works, at least in the beginning. This guide includes examples, tips, and tricks.

Get your copy of Google Ads Editor. You cannot access this app from your mobile device. Log in to your Google Account. To access the program, you’ll need a Windows- or Mac OS-based computer.

Navigation

Although the editor’s navigation is simple, it can get a bit confusing if you use a Mac or a PC. If you are using a Mac, the application menu will be located at the top.

The toolbar can be found in the top row. You can create an account, download the most recent updates, check for any changes, and view statistics.

The tree view can be found at the top left-hand corner. The tree view shows both the campaign names and the names of the ad groups. Click on the small arrows next to each campaign name to expand or collapse it.

A mange section will be found further down the menu. Here you will choose the data that will appear in the middle of your screen under the data section.

The display of the middle section can be changed depending on your selections. Click on keywords or targeting to see the keywords that will match your campaign.

To expand the view, tap on the ladder icon at top of the app. You can also edit multiple keywords simultaneously by selecting multiple keywords.

Once you’ve mastered the basics, we can move on to other navigation features. Sometimes this can be more useful than the other.

Downloading Statistics and Accounts

There are many reasons you might want to download an account. There are many reasons you might want to download an account.

If you haven’t already added an account to the ads editor, click on the “Add” button. Enter the password and email address and then add it like with other accounts

Once you have added the account, click the checkbox beside it. A similar menu will appear:

You’ll see a variety of options after you click “download”, including “All Campaigns”, Campaigns already downloaded, and finally “Campaigns that I select”. This dialog box lets you choose the campaigns that you want to download and which ad groups are included in each one.

The data window will show you the data you have selected. When you manage multiple accounts you can use your MCC email address to manage them all.

To see statistics, click on the view statistics button in your toolbar. To modify the date range or to obtain statistics for the campaign that interests you, click on “Get Statistics”.

Next, choose the date range you want to download and then choose the statistics. There are many options. You can also choose custom dates from the top.

Once you click OK, statistics will appear in the data window at the center of the screen. Click the Statistics tab to view the downloaded file. You can also choose to download another set.

This is the biggest advantage. This is a big advantage.

Import and export

Edit ads and campaigns multiple times, create new campaigns and perform other tasks with the Google Ads editor. This file may contain instructions or modifications to multiple campaigns and ad groups.

Preparing the CSV file to upload is key. Google gives detailed instructions.

It is important to remember that each column must follow a certain format. Also, specific data must be included to avoid mistakes.

The Google Ads editor will only display the first 100 rows in a file when you import it.

Once your file has been completed, click Account and import. Next, select your file. Make sure the headers are correct. If they aren’t, you can use the dropdown menu to correct them. You can add additional columns to the column with the heading “Keyword span>” if you have them.

Once the file is completed, click import. Review the changes you’ve imported and don’t worry about making mistakes. They will be pointed out by the editor. You can reject the results and accept changes if you’re not happy with them.

Another note on imports. You must add #Original to that column. Name your column “Headline” and make your edits. This will allow you to assess the impact of changing headlines on an ad.

You can also export files to Google ads editor in CSV format

  • Backup
  • Exporting performance data
  • Exporting a summary

Another trick that is often overlooked is to ensure your CSV file is properly formatted. You can make multiple changes by simply exporting the file. After saving a copy of the file, you can make any changes you want to it and then import them.

Select accounts from the menu to export an entire account. Next, select the account that you want to export.

You can easily export individual campaigns or your entire account

You have the option to select your entire account, campaigns, or ad groups, and you can also create your own rules.

Your browser may ask you to allow the Google Ads editor to download the file. After saving the file, you can view and edit it, as well as save it as a backup.

Share, comment, and review changes

Many companies have multiple Google Ads Reviewers. They may need to have more eyes to look at a set of ads before approval.

Edit your Google Ads Editor account. Don’t forget to save the changes.

You can export your changes to an Ads Editor share file (AES File) by going to the Account tab and choosing “export entire Account”. Choose the AES style before saving the file.

Email the file to another reviewer within your company.

AES files can be used as a snapshot. You can use the AEA file instead if you don’t plan to upload any changes right away. It can be reimported later.

Reviewers can make comments on changes by simply highlighting the row and clicking “Add Comment.” This allows reviewers to quickly exchange information about changes made.

The reviewer can either send the file back with comments or reviews. They can also make minor modifications to the file and then post them in Google Ads Editor. They will create an AES file again for the next readers if necessary.

  • Items in stock
  • All new items

An item that has been removed or moved cannot be changed. The item can be restored or moved back to its original place if the reviewer approves.

What’s the next step?

Making changes

After you have checked your changes thoroughly, it is simple to post them.

Use the post button to submit changes

Click “Post” on the account you wish to modify. After all, changes have been made, you will see a progress window, organized by campaign.

Once your changes have been posted, you can close the window.

Advanced Function

What’s advanced search? This is the search function in the editor that allows for super-fast searches with no internet connection. Advanced Search filters allow you to quickly locate campaigns that include the term “content strategy”.

There are many options and you will be amazed at the precision with which you can narrow down your search.

It is easy to add filters to find the information you need.

This warning is meant to warn you: If your campaigns or ads don’t show up in a search, you should make sure you have cleared all filters from any previous searches.

Custom Rules

You can create your own rules in the Google Ads editor. These rules will inform you if there are any violations of best practices before you post a campaign.

You have the option to disable or modify some of the built-in rules.

But it doesn’t end there. Custom rules can be created to include different parameters to best suit your ads.

Be aware.

Manage Video Campaigns

Video campaigns are often large and can be difficult to manage.

Video campaigns can be created. First, select the account to which you want to add the campaign. Next, click on the arrow that says “Ad Campaign”. “

Other campaigns can be created in Google Ads Editor

Once you have created your ad you can view the data view and make any changes.

  • Content Exclusions – Categories in which your ads should not appear.
  • Network Settings – YouTube Search and YouTube Videos.
  • Bid Strategy: Manual or Automatic CPV Strategy

Ad groups can be created to promote your video ads. An “in-display” group cannot have an “instream” type ad.

Additional fields you can edit in Google Ads Editor include Video ID, Status, and Final URL. You can also upload a photo to the Google Ads Editor, replacing an existing one with a newer version.

Call Only Ads

Call-only ads encourage customers to call your business. You can track call response, and whether or not a call counts as a conversion.

Edited Call-only Campaigns

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to select ad types. Next, highlight your campaign. Click on the “Add Call Only Ad”.

Call-only advertisements can be added to your site.

Once you’ve made your selection, click OK to open the editing area. Make choices about call tracking and conversions.

Google Ads editor allows you to create, edit, and monitor call-only ads in the same way as other types of advertisements. Even faster, you can create new ads within minutes.

Smart Bidding Management

Smart Bidding can help you optimize your business’s performance. Smart Bidding takes data from all campaigns and combines it to create machine learning. This will allow you to optimize your business’s performance and get a higher return on your investment.

The Google Ads editor is a great place to manage smart bidding strategies and bidding strategies. You can also see first-page bidding estimates and other useful information.

Bid strategies can be imported using CSV spreadsheets just like other features.

  • Type “Bid Strategy Name”, in one column to apply portfolio bid strategies. This tells Google Ads you want to modify the portfolio strategy type.
  • To determine standard bid strategies, use the “Bid Strategy Type” column.
  • Portfolio bid strategies should be considered in every case.

Smart bidding strategies are now a standard in many campaigns. You need to learn how to manage them using Google Ads Editor.

Daily Budget Recommendations

Google will inform you when traffic is lost due to budget constraints. This will display in your campaign tab.

The recommended budget refers to the number of impressions you need to get more than you currently have. You have the option to accept or reject this recommendation based on your budget and goals.

Copy & Paste

Copy ads, keywords, and campaigns just like the Google Ads dashboard.

This can be done from the edits tab in the application menu. You can also use the keyboard shortcuts Command+C and Control+C for Mac.

It’s easy to use an existing campaign to create a new one

Remove duplicate keywords

A useful tool is an ability to duplicate keywords. This tool is accessible through the tools menu.

You can do this in the data window by clicking “Select duplicates by …”.”. You can filter by the following criteria:

  • Maximum CPC
  • First-page bid estimate
  • Estimate for the top-of-page bid
  • Qualitative score
  • Average CPC
  • CPM Average
  • CTR
  • Impressions
  • Average position

Make sure you have the most current information

Google Ads Editor works only with the information you provide. This tool makes it easy to sort duplicate keywords.

Ad groups can be created in minutes

Google ads editor allows you to easily create new ad groups. This is one of your best options for managing your ads.

Select “Ad groups” in the ads section of your page. Once you have entered the campaign, the new group will appear in both the data window and the editing window.

In that window, you can change the name and type for your ad groups.

You can choose between CPC and CPM bidding options

We added TEST to our ad group but left the type as default. You can still make your selections via the drop-down menu. After you are done, you can configure and refine your ad using the reach-to URL options.

It’s quick and easy, and you don’t even need to go to the usual Google Ads dashboard.

Replace text

Let’s say you have an advertisement for wing night at your restaurant and want to change it from Tuesday to Thursday.

This option is located under the “Edit” menu. You have the option to match or exclude whole words. Capitalization can also be preserved. This will help you avoid typos.

It will be corrected to “ignite” if “wing night” is incorrectly spelled or if it is more precise. This would take out the lowercase letters at the beginning of the sentence.

You can select the fields where you want to see these actions performed. You can also make changes to URLs and bulk bids.

The “replace text” tool is another useful tool. However, be careful. Be sure to select the correct fields. This could cause errors.

Offline changes

Let’s say you’re on vacation and the $8 WiFi doesn’t appeal to you for a 1-hour flight. If you have the most current downloaded data, you can upload the data and make any modifications you wish.

You can make these changes without needing a connection. This is great for people who travel often or live in areas with limited internet access.

Advanced Bid Changes

Advanced Bid Changes are a great way to modify ad bidding for any or all keywords.

How do I make bulk bid changes?

You can increase or decrease the bids by a percentage or by a dollar amount.

Be aware of the keywords you highlight. While you can change the bids for certain keywords, you cannot do so for all keywords.

CSV Uploads/Downloads

This powerful tool was previously discussed under import and export. It is worth noting again that bulk uploads are a powerful tool.

The Google Ads editor will alert you to any errors in your imports and allow you to correct them.

Import/Export Option from the Account

This is an excellent way to make sure you upload the correct file format, as we’ve already mentioned. Simply perform an export download, and make any changes before uploading via the import feature.

Higher Productivity

Google Ads Editor has one major benefit: Increased productivity.

Make changes quicker by allowing your staff to review, comment and share ads. From video ads to call-only ads, ad management has never been simpler.

Google wants you to use this tool. Don’t wait! Start now!
