Time management will determine the content strategy of your business and your content strategy. These are the direct consequences of how you manage your time:

  • Business Health
  • Clients you can attract
  • Clients need value.

Learning how to make money writing freelance takes time. You can then relax and enjoy the bonbons while clients pay you competitive rates.

The struggle of the hero and the difficulties that he faces are part of a larger story: they help your marketing strategy to succeed.

There’s something scary that can happen to you if your goal is to earn money freelance writing.

Think about what it would look like if content marketing were effective. Would you be able to manage all of them? 

Service providers must be honest about what they offer. There is often a disconnect between your goals and the reality of what you are doing.

Fears of failure can prevent us from making bold, strategic plans that will help us make a living as freelance writers.

Even though we may not realize it, self-doubt can lead to poor decisions and unsafe choices that limit our potential. We don’t know if we can build relationships or manage a large client list.

1. Take it seriously

You must be able to perform services before you can offer them. This could be as simple as reviewing someone’s resume and then sharing their content on social media.

You will be able to make a living by offering your services online. “

While “wanting” may be a motivating factor in your personal life, it is not a reason for you to do so in your professional life. You should take care to consider discounts and favors when making business decisions. 

A service should not be a hobby.

While it might seem great at first, long hours can cause burnout.

Many service providers work long hours and claim it’s not worth it.

  • Personal responsibilities
  • Meals and breaks
  • Leisure
  • Sleep

You must also establish clear priorities, just like your goals. If the activities fit into your work or personal schedules, you should agree to them.

Freelancers often get caught in the “feast or famine” cycle. They have too many clients and not enough time to market.

If you only serve existing clients, you won’t get any new clients.

I do not believe that clients and friends can develop naturally.

When you present your offer, it shows you are results-oriented.

Terms and conditions of service agreements are a great way for you to stay in the “friendly, but not friends” zone.

While it might seem dull, you can still use your imagination and create great working relationships.

Your terms of service should not be too detailed. Instead, express how you feel about working with clients and what they can gain from your relationship.

Provide answers to frequently asked questions and describe customer service processes.

It’s not necessary to respond to all your emails in one minute. (See #3).

You should clearly state in your terms of service when clients can expect to hear back from you and the hours that they can expect to be reached.

9. To make money freelance writing, you must establish a payment policy.

You may have a payment schedule and policy in your terms of service.

There are no rules regarding getting paid.

Many freelance writers ask for half the upfront payment.

  • The writer will invoice the amount owed if everything goes according to plan.
  • The writer will invoice the client for any additional work requested by the client.

The price quotes I gave to prospects as freelance editors were determined by the drafts they sent me. Clients who sent me a draft that needed to be edited after they had been paid were subject to a penalty.

This was to discourage clients from making mistakes when sending me documents. It also provided a clear process for a client who decides to change their mind after I started working on the project.

10. Plan for common problems

You probably know that freelance writing is unpredictable. 

They may not realize they are asking too much or causing aggravation. Because they might not mean to harm anyone, I use the term “innocently”.

Don’t get discouraged if your client isn’t in line.

It is possible to anticipate common problems that could cause you to lose your balance.

The section in your terms of service that describes the protocol for the client’s request can be sufficient to establish your go-to plan.

You can consider your terms of service and payment policy as “living documents”, which are easy to update for clients.

11. Archive and label your emails

Everyone will have their ways of staying organized. However, one thing unites us all: email.

I can manage my inbox without any complicated or rigid system. Gmail offers two key features: archives and labels.

If you don’t have Gmail, you can still use it.

You should have different labels for each client to make it easy for you to find all correspondence.

When you decide that you don’t need the email anymore, the archive function will delete it from your inbox. Because it has been labeled, each email will remain under the label.
